About Linh’s Internship: Funded through an EPA Grant, Linh assists and educates Department of Health (DOH) engineers on streamlining permitting efforts for renewable energy developers as well as maintain a better line of communication between the engineers and renewable energy developers. Linh’s renewable energy permitting efforts also involves rolling out the ePermitting Portal to renewable energy developers and the general public. Some of Linh’s specific duties include:
- Creating and implementing an effective tracking system for renewable energy projects
- Educating the community on the use of the ePermitting portal, as well as soliciting feedback on improvements to the system
- Writing content for the ePermitting portal and creating forms for the public to complete with their interests and concerns in mind
- Engagement in the Environmental Impact Assessment processes for various renewable energy projects, which in part considers the effects on endangered species, climate, air quality, water quality, land use, costal zone management, natural area reserves, natural hazards, and public health and safety.
About Linh: Linh is committed to the improvement of our environment. She is a member and the President for the LSF (Leaders for a Sustainable Future) student organization at HPU as well as a member and event coordinator with WiRE (Women in Renewable Energy). Linh has been able to contribute to Hawaii’s efforts in renewable energy permitting and will continue to learn and provide community support through RISE’s work opportunities and sustainability seminars. Beyond her studies and work, Linh enjoys being outdoors whether it is hiking, relaxing at the beach, reading or volunteering.
